Michael Pachter, an analyst with Wedbush Morgan Securities, estimated that consumers could be paying another 10 dollars per title by the end of the year. As an avid gamer, I have watched this rising tide with fear and trepidation. Video games are a great outlet for stress, can teach some skill and be educationally useful. Forbes reported on a study by psychologists at the University of Rochester found that players actually derive a sense of achievement, freedom and social connectedness from games. But the rising cost of games hinders the average consumers ability to pickup new and diversified titles. The exceptions to the current trends of higher prices are tied to internet technologies.
